DHD: Stargate, anyone(s) on SG1 gets telepathy. Hammond and/or Janet with telepathy also entirely acceptable.
Headaches came with command, George knew well. Every time he’d been promoted, his wife had cooked a celebratory meal and upsized the bottle of aspirin in the medicine cabinet. But it was largely metaphorical headaches he had to deal with, or headaches walking around in human bodies, like certain unnamed members of SGs 1, 3, and 5. Mostly 1. Little frustrations, bigger frustrations, and concerns, and worries that were easier to label as a headache and move on. Being a little tired and overworked was part of the job of running the SGC, and it was worth a headache now and again to keep his family--his country--his planet-- safe. This headache, though, felt like his first ever hangover, back when he’d been young and stupid and unsupervised. “General?” Major Carter asked. He blinked at her, trying to recall what exactly her report had been about. Something about the trees on a planet--no, that wasn’t right. The bees? No…badgers? Badgers sounded right. He glanced at the written report to confirm. Badgers. Not any weirder than sentient water that had taken out so many Russians a few weeks back. “Yes?” he asked. “You have a question, Major?” “Sir, not to be blunt but are you ok?” she asked, “He doesn’t look well. I guess I wouldn’t either, with all the fuss Senator Kimsey is kicking up, he’s got an awful lot on his plate.” “I would appreciate it, Major, if you didn’t refer to me in the third person,” he grit out, waving a hand at her obvious dismay. “I’m fine, just a headache. You’re dismissed.” “Sir,” she acknowledged, though George could hear her muttering about oddness and doubting the headache ‘story.’ As if he was lying about the pounding in his head. It wasn’t like Cater, and George let himself wonder for a moment that Colonel O’Neill had rubbed off a little too much on his team. The headache lessened, some, as he read over the report in the quiet of his office. It worsened again when someone tapped at his door. “Come in,” he barked. The sooner he dealt with whatever emergency Dr. Frasier had uncovered, the sooner he could try to take a little catnap. “General Hammond,” Dr. Frasier smiled. “I was just speaking with Sam, and she expressed some concerns. Could you tell me a little about your symptoms? Headache? Migraine? Brain tumor?” “For heaven’s sake,” George said, feeling a little like Jack. “ I do not have a brain tumor.” “I see,” Dr. Frasier frowned. “I think Sam was right. Telepathy.” “Telepathy?” George squinted at her. “Dr. Frasier, I don’t want to question your judgment, but that seems a little far fetched.” “I’d agree with you,” she said. “If I’d said my suspicions out loud.” “Oh,” he said, and really, what else was there to say? Ah, right. “ How on earth did I…” “Could have been something brought back from that planet, something in the mind that resists our decontamination…of course, no one else seems to have come down with it. I’m sure Daniel will be eager to go back and find out. For now, as your doctor, I suggest you get lots of rest, and avoid crowds. He’s here practically around the clock, maybe it’s a good time to see--” “You think I should go home? Like this? Doctor, I have two very sweet granddaughters approaching middle school. The last thing I want to know is what’s in their heads.” She laughed. “Understandable. I’ll tell everyone to leave you be.” “No, wait,” he stopped her. “See if O’Neill and Harriman can be spared.” “Can I ask why?” George pulled out a deck of cards. “I want to see how far I can take this. Since I’m officially off duty per your orders and all.” “Get pictures,” Dr. Frasier laughed again. “We’re all going to want to see the look on Jack’s face. Good luck, sir.”

NINE: characters you love to hate, then love to love
I was going to write "characters you identify with" but honestly... do I identify with any of them, per se? Not so much- they're all very sitcommy, in a good way. I've never been the kind of person who wants to see "real people" end up in sitcom hijinks; that just ends up being cringe comedy. I want to see the kinds of weirdos who can handle it, who were written for it.
The Cabin Pressure crew are perfect for this. They're all at least a bit (at LEAST) over the top, and all have something that makes you, occasionally, want to punch them (if gently, in Arthur's case) in the face. They all have a kind of a grandiosity that means that no amount of plot-related deflation can truly diminish them- even putting "Dougie" in a life jacket and making him explain how a whistle works isn't going to change the fact that, once that's all done, he's Douglas again. Of course, Arthur will always be Arthur no matter how often he's called a clot- in fact, he becomes more Arthurish the more that happens, because part of what makes him larger than life is his near-impermeability.
I think that that's kind of the point of what makes the characters so moving, though- they’re given a tremendous humanness that is, very often, linked to exactly the thing that makes them larger than life as a sitcom character. And yet, somehow, exploring those human foibles and feelings never diminishes them as sitcom characters to the point of making things actually uncomfortable (except possibly Kuala Lumpur and Qik for Martin, and those are rare bottom-tier episodes for me anyway).
It’s just pretty awesome- the very thing that makes a character larger than life also ends up being the thing that makes them lifelike. It shouldn’t work, but it does.
For example, let’s take Carolyn. What makes her larger than life is the sheer extent to which she takes being a boss- and, in many ways, a control freak. It’s what makes her hilarious but it’s also part of what is holding her back as a person, in the sense that she doesn’t feel like her crew would be there for her if she WEREN’T a control freak. So this natural part of her personality ends up becoming a barrier to her happiness because of the way it interprets how she sees the world, the lack of trust that she has in people who care about her (of course, except for Arthur, but he loves EVERYONE and isn’t trustworthy for other reasons lol). This of course extends itself to meeting and being with Herc, whose feelings for her she can’t fully trust- and as a result she can’t trust him.
The key ends up being- her journey is not about Carolyn needing to be sweeter or softer. It’s about people realizing that she’s not sweet or soft, people like her anyway (or maybe even BECAUSE of it, in the case of Herc), and she needs to trust that they do. She didn’t need to cut back on any part of herself- she needed to open herself up to more, keep the parts of herself that make her her while also not letting them mislead her into being closed off. She remains the same person, but expanded. And that’s pretty beautiful. The thing that makes her a sitcom character isn’t a character flaw that needs to be fixed, it’s a character trait that can be both used well and misused. Misused is funnier but used well is happier- and both are her.
On a similar note- if there’s a character I come close to identifying with, it’s Martin, which I’m sure is the case for many (though if you identify with Douglas, I’d be fascinated to know you lol). I don’t identify with him all as a human being, though, which is a comfort because, like, oh my goodness that would be depressing! I think that the things that people identify with about Martin are his constant striving and, yet, his constant failure- but his core trait is beyond that, that he wants not only to be doing the thing he loves but to be both GOOD at it and RECOGNIZED as good. This is of course intensely relatable, and the thing that is maladaptive is more the extent to which he goes to achieve this than that actual fact itself. By the end of the show, he’s basically brought to normal-human levels of achievement and competence at his dream and is newly satisfied with it, and that’s something we cheer him on for because it just feels achievable- if someone like him can, surely I can too. (This is, of course, mildly undercut by him becoming the boyfriend of the Princess of Liechtenstein lol.) Whatever Martin goes on to achieve will be BECAUSE of his core sitcom trait of wanting to excel at a thing that he loves, but he will have become mildly less annoying about how he achieves that because of how he’s grown. After all, too, part of how he’s going to achieve it is to take on a sitcom trait (a mask of invulnerability) of another excellent sitcom character, Douglas, even if it came via Rory!
Essentially, I think, the key to Cabin Pressure is that it recognizes not only that the very things that make you laugh at a person are the things that can make them deeper and richer, but that there is nothing about the process of them improving themselves that has to make them less funny, because they’re not fixing their sitcom flaws, they’re becoming better about how they use them. They’re still recognizably the same people.
I could go into a whole ramble about sitcoms that I think do and don’t use this well (Frasier, for example, was very good at this for a while but lost it; Parks and Rec, in contrast, got the principle very well but was extremely uneven at applying it on a character by character basis). But I do want to single out Ted Lasso as a show that really fumbled its attempt at this. I loved S1 and really went off it after that, and part of it is that it decided that everything that made Ted distinctive as a character had to be inherently maladaptive. At a certain point, he became Ned Flanders in the Simpsons episode where it turned out that he was essentially psychologically abused into being cheerful all the time- not only was he less funny, he just didn’t feel like the same person. Now, Ted Lasso was more of a dramedy than a sitcom, and maybe that’s why they thought this was necessary/warranted, but if so they were wrong, IMO.
I mention other sitcoms in comparison, and I guess the real clincher that makes Cabin Pressure special is that it lets all its characters grow, to some degree. There’s a kind of an acknowledgement that a sitcom “rule” is that the main character can’t really change, or the show won’t be the same. It explains, for example, why Frasier doesn’t develop to the degree that Niles does in the first two thirds of the show. And the thing is that JF defied this because he got that a great sitcom character needs to have a funny personality trait, but it doesn’t always have to be (equally) a flaw. Cabin Pressure’s crew will always have those same traits, and sometimes they’ll use them well and sometimes they won’t/those traits will clash with others’, and in the latter cases (and sometimes in the former too!) that will make for funny episode premises. A character growing enough that a particular maladaptive element of their sitcom trait is no longer a big issue is great, but doesn’t make them less them, and therefore they’re still going to be funny even if it’s in a different and more self aware way.
Now, you might ask, how does this all play in with JF’s concept of sitcom graduation, where there’s a natural endpoint? I’m glad you asked! To me, the answer is that this is their graduation from THIS scenario. Martin had definitely graduated from MJN, if not from the crew family; Carolyn had graduated from running a dictatorship where she felt like she couldn’t trust, and even reward, people who believed in her; and Douglas had graduated from his feeling of ironic detachment. But we can feel confident that the sitcom traits that they have won’t stop being relevant, that they won’t stop being them, and that they won’t stop being funny. It’ll just be with a different dynamic and different sets of flaws related to that sitcom trait. There will always be situations where their sotcom personalities will be funny!
And I think that the key example of this was Cabin Fever, honestly. While Arthur, who is the only character who couldn’t completely change, obviously didn’t, the other characters brought up retain all of their key traits from the show, just in a different kind of an environment. It becomes clear the extent to which their sitcom traits were just particularly pronounced elements of well drawn personalities with constellations of related traits, and a Douglas/Herc trivia-ranking rivalry shows all the same Douglas sitcom traits that he always had, just applied in a different way. These people’s stories and never really ended- it’s just that particular page that turned. They’ll always be them, outsized personalities and all.
And maybe that’s why the characters live on so much to the fans. We can plop them into new imagined situations and know not just how they will react in a human, but how funny it will be. They’re not merely human, they’re sitcom characters, and that’s the best part. They’ll never lose that.

I know it’s the second of the year, but I didn't make a post, so here goes. 2024 has been a hell of a year.
The first half was great, but by the time August rolled around, I was over it. From medical emergencies to losing my job, I was feeling pretty low. However, now I have my license back, my freedom, and so many amazing friends to make 2025 special.
Thank you to Night Court and Frasier for providing me much-needed comfort. Thank you to the Night Court and John Larroquette fandom for being so welcoming and amazing.
I've emailed John’s representative and publicist about setting up an interview. If it goes through, I will definitely share! I'm hoping to find a new, better-paying job, and to write a new script and possibly finish my book.
Thanks, all. Let's make 2025 amazing.

‘I’m at a loss:’ People with Nazi flags harass citizens in Mid-Michigan
HOWELL, Mich. — A group of people were seen waving Nazi flags in two Mid-Michigan cities, including outside of a performance of a play about the Holocaust, on Saturday night.
Many people carrying flags with swastikas on them were first seen in front of the American Legion Post in Howell while the Fowlerville Community Theater performed “The Diary of Anne Frank” inside.
A member of the Howell American Legion Post said the group had recently heard about rising antisemitism and thought people could learn from the play. The theater group had been performing it for two weeks before Saturday’s incident.
Becky Frank, a cast member who played Anne Frank’s mother, was troubled by the display.
“It was upsetting,” she said. “Just knowing the character I was playing, knowing a lot of the research that I did on my character.”
Brandon Johnson, director of the play, said he has never experienced anything like that before.
“It kind of surprised me to have something that I was doing and had my name on getting protested,” he said.
Laura Goldtwait, commander at the Howell American Legion, said she believes the group was there to intimidate people, something the legion doesn’t stand for.
“I’m at a loss, honestly,” Goldtwiat said. “Both personally and as an organization.”
Witnesses say after the group left Howell, they made their way to downtown Fowlerville. One witness said the men had their faces covered with masks that read 1488, a symbol of white supremacy.
Alex Sutfill, who was driving downtown with his wife at the time, said he called the police after seeing the group.
“There was a group of people at the four-way intersection in downtown that had swastika flags and American flags,” Sutfill said. “They were sticking their arms up and yelling, ‘Hail Hitler’ and ‘Hail Trump’ and everything like that.”
Peter Damerow, who confronted the group, said members told him to go back to his country.
“They looked at me and one of them said,” said Damerow. “No this is Pureville now, and we’re here to make sure it stays pure.”
Nazi demonstrators seen in Howell and Fowlerville
He said he thinks the group was emboldened by the current political climate.
“I really felt like they felt comfortable enough to do this because of Trump’s reelection and what they said to me at the stop light made that quite clear,” Damerow said.
Though the night was interrupted, the Fowlerville Community Theater said it was able to finish performing the play. Performers aid they were just happy to represent history.

Headcanons: Starting Your Freshman Year at Greendale and Joining the Study Group
MASTERLIST | AO3 | KO-FI
Requested by: Anon
Headcanons for being a new freshman at Greendale and becoming a member of the study group?
Ohh sorry i didn’t clarify! it doesn’t matter to me, i just liked the idea of the reader kinda being the baby of the group, so maybe everyone is in their later years at greendale?
Relationship(s): The Study Group (Jeff, Britta, Annie, Troy, Abed, Shirley and Pierce) x gn!reader (platonic)
Warnings: References to underage drinking. (Let me know if I need to add any)
(A/N: I started writing this literal years ago, but I rewatched the Community Christmas episodes today and it’s made me want to rewatch all of Community and start writing for it again. Not enough people write for it, and not enough people write gender-neutral-reader fics. This was like 90% done so it was a good place to start again. I went with making it so the reader joins the Study Group during season 3, since I had the idea of using the reader to replace Todd in the episode where none of them want to work with him. I haven’t followed the canon of season 3 verbatim, since it’d have made writing this kinda difficult (plus I haven’t seen season 3 in years). So, this is more general. I’m hoping to work through my list of Community requests from years ago throughout 2024, since I’m hoping to get more into the habit of putting aside time for writing.)
When you decided on taking Biology 101 during your first semester at Greendale, you were bound to learn of (and witness first hand) the notorious Study Group.
Your hope that you wouldn’t be roped into their borderline-narcissistic antics was killed when you were given Pierce Hawthorne as your lab partner.
To say he was annoyed would be an understatement.
Oh boy, did he make it known that he abhorred having to be your lab partner.
In fact, most of them seemed to hate the idea of being stuck as your partner, which was at least a little hurtful.
When Abed rearranged the lab partner pairings based on some mental computer wizardry, you got put with Jeff, who was a bit more subtle with his annoyance.
You spent most of that night standing there awkwardly while Shirley cried about being the least popular member of the Study Group, or trying to be some kind of mediator between these friends who you knew only from rumours and observing them.
You also had to rescue a turtle from being burned alive by Britta, which sent you over the edge into a fit of fury.
Annie was the one who apologised to you for everything, and, much to the chagrin of everyone else, invited you to join the study group.
Perhaps she didn’t expect you to take her up on the offer, but you did anyway.
Your first study session with them made them realise that you fit in well with the group.
Even Abed liked your presence, because he believed it ‘changed the status quo without being like when sitcoms add a kid character in a desperate attempt to boost the ratings’.
(He compared you to Frasier from Cheers)
For a while, though, you did feel a little isolated from the group, considering you were often the only one to comment negatively on the group’s questionable behaviour, which they saw as perfectly normal.
However, you adjusted to being in the group alarmingly fast, to the point of getting carried away in the Study Group mentality like the rest of them.
As the baby of the group, you were treated as such, despite being at least a bit more mature than Troy and Abed.
For example, if Jeff and Britta were in the middle of a heated discussion, you’d be told to ‘stay out of it’.
Abed, early on, would analyse you to figure out how exactly you fit into the group, such as deciding what archetype best describes you.
There’s also a chance that he would create and manipulate situations in order to test your personality.
Jeff would shut this down as soon as he figured out what Abed was doing.
In an effort to try and include you more, Annie would force each member of the Study Group to do an activity with you.
Annie invited you to a one-on-one study session.
(Also, if you’re taking any classes that she took in her first or second year, she’ll lend you her old materials, like notes, textbooks, study cards etc.)
Shirley took you to the mall with her and her kids, treating you like one of her own kids.
Troy and Abed introduced you to Inspector Spacetime, which you quickly became a big fan of.
(Watching it became a Saturday night ritual for the three of you)
Britta brought you along to a protest which ended in the both of you in jail.
(An irritated Jeff would have to come bail you both out, and Britta would beg him not to say anything about it to Shirley or Annie)
Pierce gave you $1000 to tell Annie that he’d taken you to the zoo.
Jeff invited you over to his apartment for beers, which resulted in you both getting wasted and having a tearful heart-to-heart with one another.
Despite adopting the Study Group mentality to a certain degree, you would be the least susceptible to the group’s dumbassery due to joining so late, which meant you’d often be the one to pull the group out of the stupid shit they were doing.
At the very least, you’d pull Jeff out of it, and he’d take the lead and sort out everyone else.
If you weren’t that close to your family, you’d probably spend holidays over at Shirley’s upon her insistence.
(I love love love the idea that she makes a custom Christmas stocking for you the first year you come over)
In a weird way, the Study Group became your family, albeit a dysfunctional one.
After your friends all graduated, you stayed in touch with most of them, even before you were reunited because of the Save Greendale Committee.
It’s safe to say that, even if you do join late, you’re still accepted as one of them, for better or for worse.

== Love Notes ==
Hey lovelies! There's definitely been some reminders lately that this time of year isn't the best time for everyone. Remember to be kind to yourself and don't beat yourself up too much ok? Sometimes you do everything right. Sometimes you do your best, you bust your ass, and then shit goes horribly wrong the last second. Whether it's a draft on something fan related, or getting to work on time, or preparing a candid talk with someone or being careful driving on ice, and someone else hitting you from behind. Whatever it is-- life sometimes just does not cooperate with your expectations.
To top it off, that can be very hard if you've already been dealing with so much. It really can. It can seem like.. NOTHING goes right, and like everything is frustrating, and when your cup is already full of nonsense it just starts overflowing.
You know what the good news is? Your cup will slowly drain over time the kinder you are to yourself. Rest helps it drain, love helps it drain, comfort helps it drain so you can have more room for the next thing that happens. Right now it feels like too much because your body and your mind need a break, and you deserve a break. Winter time is normally meant for human beings and animals to hibernate! To recover with the seasons! But now we work all the time, and it can burn us out real fast. Take care of yourselves, take breaks, and if shit goes wrong, keep taking breaks, if you can, until it doesn't feel so hard anymore <3 I hope you all rest this week and have some self-care time off if you have it-- and if you don't, please be safe out there. Thinking of you.

Weekly Weighing (04/07/2024 to 04/13/2024)
Here are eight posts I enjoyed this week on gaining and encouraging Tumblr.
1. https://www.tumblr.com/tanukistudent/747221855690276864
@sandwichfella wears this formalwear expertly. The bit of skin poking through the stretched buttons tantalizes the viewer.
2. https://www.tumblr.com/milothegainer/747235520711655424/feeling-so-large-today-cant-wait-to-be-so-so
@milothegainer provides us with a fun photoset and video of a man enjoying his fat. Instant classic.
3. https://www.tumblr.com/glennk56/747224544179290112
@glennk56 provides a few photos from this Frasier episode, where I'm sure the audience was not meant to appreciate Tom McGowan's bare chest quite as much as I am.
4. 04/09/2024 (Photo) supexpat, cpap machine https://www.tumblr.com/zangtang/747379120288268288
@supexpat supplies us with this excellent shot of himself using his CPAP machine. What makes the photo better is the caption, which mentions his desire to become alarmingly obese...
5. https://www.tumblr.com/twunkleboywonder/747391967863914496/onlyfans
Obligatory comparison photos from @twunkleboywonder. Check out more of his content on OnlyFans if you want to see more.
6. 04/10/2024 (Video) thiccboysblog fries https://www.tumblr.com/thiccboysblog/747401444305600512/got-a-little-excited-while-eating-some-fries
I've taken a clip of a video from @thiccboysblog enjoying some fries and playing with his belly. I do recommend clicking through if you like what you see.
7. 04/11/2024 (Photo) biglabeouf, progress https://www.tumblr.com/chunkyguys/747506446851342336/mr-chunky-muscle
Impressive progression from @biglabeouf. Hope to see more growth.
8. https://www.tumblr.com/thiccboysblog/747522257169137664/that-belly-is-amazing
Finally, two great pictures of @bassgains in shirts that fit perfectly.
And that's this week's Weekly Weighing!

I have not picked up my recent book since early November. I have not read a thing since then. This year has been an entire mess, and I am just over it.
But, sitcoms bring me show much joy. I watched Soap earlier this year, which was fun. I rewatched Frasier (actually, on the last season again, and I will rewatch soon because I have no self control). And watched Night Court from late October to about Thanksgiving.
Both Frasier and Night Court really got me through this year. And watching John Larroquette's other works have helped so much.
Highs of the year: Going to Comic Con with my friends, seeing a life taping of Frasier and New Night Court with my mom.
Lows of the year: Suffering a black-out seizure, losing my job, and losing my driving rights (and still waiting for the DMV to give me back my license).
Also, I write for a website called Temple of Geek (run by one of my closest friends), and I want to interview John Larroquette so much. I need to figure out how to arrange this, but if New Night Court gets revived for a 4th season, I think that would be a great stepping stone into contacting him/his agent. Like, I've said, I want him to know how much this show has gotten me through one of the most difficult times in my life.

how the cheers gang would have voted in the 2024 election
diane: votes early for harris
sam: harris (wears i stand with planned parenthood t shirt to pick up girls in line at the polls)
frasier: harris (would have voted for haley if she won the primary)
lilith: harris
carla: doesn't vote
norm: doesn't vote
cliff: harris (hates trump for what he did to the postal service)
rebecca: says she's going to vote for harris but forgets to actually go to the polls
coach + woody: got so many contradictory political texts that they filled in every single circle on their ballots because they thought all the candidates made some good points
#i am not taking suggestions at this time#cheers#diane chambers#sam malone#frasier crane#lilith sternin#carla tortelli#norm peterson#cliff clavin#rebecca howe#coach pantusso#woody boyd

Nosferatu (2024) was fun (a disorganized review) (spoilers. spoiler? yeah spoilers) (even if they might not make sense out of context)
"Shut up and sell me a house, house bitch. I don't have time for this shit. I gotta be in Germany fucking your wife"- Count Orlok (Nosferatu 2024)
This was a fun and stylish and charmingly classic Vampire film. I saw it the day after it premiered and I can't seem to stop thinking about it so have fun with whatever this post is. Beast from the X-Men movies was in this (not Frasier the other one, although that would have been hilarious) and we kept calling him that during and after the movie.
This movie was really funny, and I don't mean that as a negative, or to in any way imply that it isn't a good horror film because it is. Very spooky, great cinematography, all that shit. Its just that it was also really funny in the way that some horror is funny. Does that make sense? Its hard to explain but the look on Beasts face as it slowly dawned on him that his wife was right and he was in for a really shitty time only to settle on this expression of confused sweaty horror that didn't leave for the rest of the movie; Just how fucking rude Dracula was in this for no reason; Willem Defoe being himself; THE RATS. It was all just really funny to me ok.
There is a scene in this movie involving a pigeon that was genuinely so disgusting but also I've been laughing about it ever sense. There are two sex scenes in this movie, and also this is the least sexy Vampire movie I've ever scene. there's something nice about the idea that in an age of sexy vampires, sympathetic vampires, and silly vampires, Count Orlok rose to take his place as a scary, off-putting, gross jerk.
#nosferatu 2024#robert eggers#This movie is about an estate agent who gets cucked by dracula#Nosferatu spoilers#nosferatu spoilers?#Rats#willam dafoe served as always#anyway go see nosferatu 9/10#I wish to continue to blur the line between shit post and actual movie review#review?#lilly rose depp#bill skarsgård#thomas hutter
